Свое заявление Эрдоган сделал перед камерами после заседания кабинета министров. Эксперты отмечают, что таким образом Эрдоган признал, что Национальная разведывательная организация (MIT) ведет незаконную «бандитскую» деятельность на территории иностранных государств.
Орхан Инанды покинул свой дом около 18.00 вечера 31 мая, и после этого о нем ничего не было слышно. Его машину нашли на улице возле его дома около 4:20 утра 1 июня. Узнав об инциденте, сотни людей собрались перед посольством Турции в Кыргызстане, где якобы содержался Инанды. Люди скандировали лозунги «Где Орхан Инанды?» и «Пусть он найдется!». Сторонники педагога требовали объяснений. В свою очередь турецкие проправительственные СМИ сообщили, что Инанды похитил не MIT, к инциденту причастны кыргызские спецслужбы.
После выступления Эрдогана был показана фотография Орхана Инанды в наручниках перед турецким флагом. На фото видно, что у задержанного отросла борода, и он сильно похудел.
